Rubik’s cubes are a fun tool to incorporate into your magic. You can turn them into spells themselves, altar decorations, amulets, and so much more! They’re very lowkey, and are perfect for office folks who might want to bring a less-obvious magical object to keep on their desk. Here are just a few ways you can utilize your Rubik’s cube for magical purposes.
(Disclaimer: in order to carry out some of these methods and ideas, you will need knowledge on how to solve Rubik’s cubes. It is a lot easier than many folks expect; it’s just a matter of memorizing a series of algorithms! I recommend checking out diagrams and YouTube videos to assist you if you are interested in learning how to solve Rubik’s cubes).
Color Magic
One of the easiest ways to incorporate magic into your cube is by color magic. This method doesn’t require any alterations to your cube, and it’s a fairly simple theory: depending on your associations of the colors on your cube, you can attach intention to them, and then solve your cube based on whatever intentions you want to achieve. For example: let’s say I want to purify or cleanse a space. I would simply scramble my Rubik’s cube, and then solve the white side of the cube, leaving the rest of it unsolved. With this white side, it emanates a purifying and cleansing energy that I can work with.
You could even go so far as to solve several sides of the cube, if you have several intentions. For example, if I wanted to purify and balance my space, I would solve the white and green sides of the cube. You can set it up on your altar, or leave it in a space where you’re needing that energy. When you no longer need the assistance of the cube, you can scramble it back up again.
Sigils and Symbols
Here’s where things get really fun: on the face of a solved Rubik’s cube, you can draw sigils and symbols with specific intentions. Utilizing the same concept of color magic, you can scramble the cube, and then solve the cube based on whichever sigils or symbols you want to harness.
Magic Squares
One of the first things I noticed when I began researching magic squares was that the magic square of Saturn was in a 3x3 grid – the exact same as a typical Rubik’s cube. This inspired me to create a magic square of Saturn Rubik’s cube amulet by writing the same numbers on the magic square of Saturn onto my Rubik’s cube. I then researched the different associations for Saturn, and whenever I need help in any of those areas, I will solve my Rubik’s cube (and therefore, also solve the magic square of Saturn). This can also be applied to other sizes of Rubik’s cubes, including 4x4s (which would relate to Jupiter), 5x5s (which would relate to Mars), and so on.
Other Associations and Uses
Can be used in spellwork and rituals that relate to problem solving, finding solutions, getting out of a difficult or “tangled up” situation, etc. More specifically, you can “guide” spells (and rituals) with a Rubik’s cube by teaching the spell to find the “best possible solution” to whatever you’re trying to achieve.
Solving a Rubik’s cube can be used as a meditative exercise or as a method of calming down if you’re stressed, anxious, etc. (this method really only works once you have the algorithms memorized, and you can solve it without looking at a guide)
You may cleanse, anoint and/or dedicate a Rubik’s cube specifically as a tool for ritual or spellwork – similar to the chalice, knife/athame, wand, etc.
